Jazz Notes at the Edge
The Edge Arts Centre is delighted
to announce that a 15 month–long programme of jazz events
is being supported by the Arts Council and local businesses.

The Jazz Notes at the Edge
series has been running for two years, and now has a chance to develop
in new areas.
The Jazz Notes programme has so far featured fantastic performances
from locally and regionally-based musicians, but this boost will
mean that Much Wenlock will be seeing performances from nationally
and internationally-known players.
As well as performances, we will be running a series of Masterclasses
and outreach programmes to schools. We want people of all ages,
interests and abilities to have a chance to get involved with this
really exciting form of music. We are delighted to have the additional
support of our local business partners at The Wood Brewery and The
Bridge Coffee Company. At a time when the Arts Council is cutting
back drastically on grant-aid, this represents a huge vote of confidence
in The Edge and in local audiences.
All performances are presented cabaret-style with The Edge Bar open
throughout. The performance commences at 8.00 p.m. Tickets are now
on sale from The Edge Box Office on 01952 728509 or manager@edgeartscentre.co.uk
For more information, email manager@edgeartscentre.co.uk,
or call Alison Vermee on 01952 728509.

After last year’s performance from the Tord Gustavsen Trio, we are delighted to present another ECM artist, Swedish pianist Bobo Stenson with his acclaimed trio. Their new CD, Cantando, is released this Autumn. Stenson has worked with Jan Garbarek, Charles Lloyd and Tomasz Stanko and more recently has made albums under the By Five banner, honouring the work of Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk and Charles Mingus. Witchi-Tai-To, his album with Jan Garbarek released in 1973, has been described as one of the greatest European jazz recordings.
“Over the course of a 35-year association with the German record label ECM, Bobo Stenson has earned a reputation for subtlety, sonority and a gently shimmering kind of abstraction. Yet Mr. Stenson, Sweden’s pre-eminent jazz musician, has always been an adventurer, with a more dynamic approach than his recordings might suggest.” (New York Times)
“His ECM trio albums place Stenson among the greatest living jazz pianists.” (JazzTimes)
